Brothers and Sisters;
We are writing to tell you about an inappropriate, unfair and outrageous effort undertaken by RG management in the wake of the liquidation of its steel making business.
On October 25, the company filed a motion asking the bankruptcy court in Delaware for authority to implement a Key Employee Retention Plan which would allow RG Steel to pay $767,000 to 21 unnamed salaried personnel if they merely stay through the end of 2012.
Specifically, the company wants to pay a $23,000 monthly stipend for each individual to allow them to purchase health insurance, along with bonus payments to three month’s salary if the individual stays through Dec. 31. Hiding behind the curtain of confidentiality, RG has refused to name these 21 people, but says that these employees perform “essential Functions” related to sales, accounting, treasury, IT and other unidentified “administrative” functions.
The company’s plan to reward a select few people still collecting paychecks from RG with bonuses is a slap in the face and shamefully predictable effort to reward its own. Meanwhile, RG owes Steelworkers and retirees monies for unpaid vacations, severance, medical and other broken promises. In fact, your Union filled proofs of a claim totaling to more than $600 million.
The USW fully intends to make the bankruptcy court aware of our objections to this cash grab. There will be a hearing in Delaware on Tues. Nov. 20, and our legal counsel will be present.
The owners of RG caused harm for steelworkers, retirees, and, frankly, everybody who did business with the company. The Steelworkers who struggled for generations to build and maintain these facilities and are now jobless have suffered far more than any of the unidentified and mysterious 21 salaried workers the company wants to reward, and we will make sure the court understands this.
As always, we urge your continued patience and solidarity as this long, frustrating process continues.

 The Negotiating Committee met with the representivies from Severstal on Oct. 19th at the Comfort Inn in Weirton. Information regarding the Union's stance on the contract offer was discussed and we believe that a fair and equitable contract will be reached. Our next Negotiating Meeting will be Oct. 26th at 10:00 A.M.

HCTC eligibility is as follows, Must be enrolled in insurance and the insurance must accept HCTC.Must be receiving a check from PBGC to be eligible. Also must be TRA-TAA eligible.Since TAA-TRA is accepted, you must have a determination letter that you receive TAA to be able to get HCTC. You must contact HCTC to get an application for enrollment. Wells Fargo Advisors Announces 401k Info Session
Wells Fargo Advisors plan 401k information session for former employees of RG Steel.

Wheeling, WV (Wednesday, October 10th 2012) – Financial advisors with the Wheeling branch of Wells Fargo Advisors are planning to host several information sessions for former employees of RG Steel to help educate them on how to best handle their 401k plans with the former employer.

Former employees of RG Steel who participated in the 401k with the company will benefit from this information session. According to local Financial Advisor Heidi Koler, “These employees have to make a decision in the next couple of months about what to do with their 401k plans since the company declared bankruptcy.” “This deadline is swiftly approaching,” added Colleen Burgess, Financial Advisor, “and its important for folks to understand their options regarding rollovers and distributions.”

 I was reached by phone by a wells fargo rep that stated to me. That they will be conducting meetings through out all locals for the 401 k.  They will get with me and I will post the dates and times to each on this site. I was also told that we would have to get the money out by the end of the year. So when i recieve more info i will post it once again. I was informed by the company, RG Steel, that pay checks going forward will come from Green Energy not RG Steel and will be paper checks with no direct deposit option. RG will be sending out W2 forms for 2012 sometime in the middle of October so we need to inform our members to look for them. Since there will no longer be a RG Steel, any lost forms will not be replaced. Please use caution and keep these forms in a safe place.

As of last Monday everyone will be updated as terminated from RG Steel to entertain their options for the 401k. The Special Benefits Letter is being mailed out this week.  The letter will outline the programs available to our members. This letter is just an annoucement letter that will be followed by a Benefits Packet listing all meeting dates, times, and locations.  If you have any questions please contact the Union Hall for additional assistance. 

As you are aware we received these documents from the Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. These forms were mailed out individually to all employees. These forms are not to be filled out by us unless you have a personal claim that was not contractual issues... Those of us which has contractual issues need to not fill these out cause the Attorneys for the International have a blanket out for all covered employees under the BLA.

As you are aware of the speculation of the benefits, RG Steel sent out letters that confirmed the termination of our Health and Welfare Benefits, COBRA Coverage, and Termination of 401(k) Savings Plan. As it states and confirms the Benefits will end as of August 31, 2012. We are also going to be receiving a letter of explanation from the International soon as well. If any questions please feel free to call the Union Hall at 740-283-3356.
